Horney’s views on narcissism are quite different from other psychoanalytical theorists. She believed the narcissist personality develops from a certain type of environment acting on a certain kind of temperament instead of being inherited.

Karen Horney and Alfred Adler formed the Neo-Freudian discipline.  Horney on many issues agreed with Freud’s theories but was also critical of him on some of his key beliefs.

Karen Horney first brought forward her theory on Feminine Psychology in 1939.  Horney (1939) wrote that Freud (1933) believed that there are psychic differences between the sexes which are engendered by bisexual trends.
